Workies Black found Blackheath Greens too strong going down 5-1.
The game started and finished at a fast pace, with the slick Greens in control making the Blacks work for every ball.
The Blacks were short of players with Kobi Egan, Alex Stait and Rye Gibbs-Minner answering the call to play up an age group, showing they are more than capable to make the step to the next level with some good running and determined tackling.
The half time score saw the Blacks go in at 2-nil down, with only a few chances going their way and finding the pace of the bigger Greens tiring.
With the words of wily coach Brett Jenkins still ringing in their ears, the Blacks started the second half attacking the Greens final third and scored a good team goal from sustained pressure when Gibbs-Minner rose above the pack and headed home a Sam Jennings corner.
The Blacks’ goal saw the Greens lift in tempo and score two quick goals with the Blacks defence struggling to keep up with the fast finishing Greens.
The game finished up 5-1 to the Greens, with the Blacks pushing them to the very end.
The Blacks season will only improve when they start playing to their strengths and the game plan given to them.
Good games were had by Rye Gibbs-Minner, Kobi Egan, Liam Howard and Jack Willott.
