Actors such as Jai Koutrae (The Half Dead, Broken Sun) and Todd Lasance (Home and Away, Spartacus: War of the Damned, and Underbelly) are making Portland and surrounding villages home for a few days while the film is being shot.
Although some big Australian names in the film industry are making their presence felt in the town you can’t deny the friendly folk of the area the chance to take a bow as they eagerly took part in the film as extras.
The call was put out and the community responded with about 30 locals who headed to Portland to lend a hand in what could turn out to be the next Australian blockbuster.
In Tuesday’s above average temperatures across the region the film crew, actors, extras and onlookers braved the heat and patiently waited for their instructions over the course of the day.
With a later start than predicted, due to a few hiccups the previous night, filming took place in the heat of the day and did not wrap up until midnight.
Yesterday the cast and crew headed to Sunny Corner to use the pine forest as a backdrop in a scene where a car rolls over.
The crew members were slightly nervous with this as there was only one chance to film the car on the roll — they only have one car so it was to be one take once the car rolled.
Under the guidance of one of Australia’s top stunt drivers, Grant Page, producer Tim Maddock is quietly confident all will go well.
“So far the experience of the Portland community has been exceptional,” Mr Maddock said.
“From the local school principal (Murray Borham) to the publican at the Coronation Hotel, we have all been made welcome and people can’t do enough for us.
“Thank you.”
Things will calm down and Portland will return to the quaint little Australian village it is so well known for when the movie set changes to a site between Bathurst and Oberon after next week.
Even though the town may have been transformed into a place that resembles somewhere in the mid west of America, locals won’t have to look too hard to recognise the distinct characteristics that can only be found in Portland when the movie is released.
It will be a must see for locals, especially those who wish to see their debut to the big screen.
‘Terminus’ follows the story of David Chamberlain (played by Jai Koutrae), ‘a small town mechanic who makes a shocking discovery which may affect the fate of mankind’.
No release date has been set yet but the Lithgow Mercury will publish details when notified.
