Only running for three years, the competition has been going from strength to strength.
The Four Club Challenge started as an idea to bring more business to smaller clubs and to foster cooperation between the local bowling clubs of Lithgow Workies, Lithgow City, Portland and Wallerawang.
Trevor Schram from Lithgow Workies Bowling Club got together with Darryl Kirkwood from Portland, Craig Pugsley from Wallerawang and Jimmy Bannerman from Lithgow City and came up with the idea of two games of 15 ends of turn around triples.
The game alternates between the four clubs each month during October to May with ‘The Cup’ held for a month by the winning club.
At the end of the eight games the wins are added up to crown an overall winner.
The winning club is awarded the Four Club Challenge shield, which is held for 12 months.
Lithgow City Club has been the winner for the two previous years.
Now it is Portland’s turn to hold the shield, a reward for a very convincing 28 point win, with Lithgow City coming second with 21 points, followed by Lithgow Workies and Wallerawang.
Congratulations, Portland!
