The Lithgow Bears Rugby League Club hosted the Mid West New Era Cup Rugby League Knockout competition for 2018 on March 24.

The knockout started with the Bears league tag on field 2 against the reigning champions, CSU. For the first eight minutes of the first half the Bears took charge of the game with the play being played within the CSU half.
A disallowed try to the Bears had CSU rattled but they showed the Bears why they are reigning champions after they found gaps in the Bears’ defence and managed to beat the Bears 30-0.
The Bears league tag team then came up against Portland, with Portland ending the game only scoring two tries against the Bears.
Game three was a turn around, with a win against the Blackheath Blackcats 28-0. The Bears stormed through the Blackheath players to score under the posts. Monique Milmore played outstanding in the centres to score majority of the Bears Tries. Deanna Collins, a new player to the Bears, found a gap in the defence and was off to the try line but was unfortunately tagged at the last minute. Shanaya Callaghan converted the Bears tries.
The last game for the Bears was up against Orange Barbarians, which they narrowly lost.
The Zambreros players’ player award for the day went to Jessie-Rose Lutchini, who gave it her all the whole day.
The Bears Rugby league team came up against CSU in the first round. The Bears only just narrowly lost the game by two tries. The Bears’ try-scorer was Ryan Bilby, who got an intercept pass and ran through the CSU defence to the try line.
The Bears came out scoring tries and gave Portland a shock in the second game, beating the team 14-6. This was an aggressive game.
Blackheath was too strong for the Bears, tumbling them 18-0. Injuries were starting to show by this stage.
The Bears put up a strong fight and only went down to Orange Barbarians by two tries. All rugby league teams were close and was nail-biting right until the end of the day.
The finals were played between Blackheath and Orange with Orange just finishing the previous game 15 minutes prior. The finals for the boys went down to a count back between Blackheath, CSU and Orange.
The Bears Zambreros Players Player award went to Blake Collins for his continued effort as fullback within the games.
The Bears thanked everyone who supported the day.
