There were 33 swimmers who participated in the championships with a number of swimmers recording new personal best times in a number of the events.
Four new club records were also set on the day.
These were broken by Jess Wilson in the under 16 years 50 butterfly previously set in 2007, Charlie Evans in the 8 years breaststroke also previously set in 2007. Brody McManus broke two records, the 17 years 100 breaststroke previously set in 2005 and the 100 freestyle which had previously been broken in 2017.
“It was a great effort by all swimmers,” committee member Pete Evans said.
After the official racing was over, the club held family races where four members of the same family competed.
“It was a fantastic day, with the family races where we even had some blended families because they wanted to compete,” Mr Evans said.
There were also novelty events for kids such as noodle races and swimming with bungee cords so that younger kids could try and swim as far as they could with them on.
The winter swimming season will see the use of the indoor pool when the outdoor pool closes on Sunday, April 1.
“This allows training for our members to continue training at the indoor pool when previously they had to use pools from around the region,” Mr Evans said.
The use of the indoor pool has seen improved results for the swimming club.
“We are a small club and unique with that we are run solely by volunteers, all our coaches are volunteers,” he said.
The club is looking for new members and kids to join as each month there will be a club race night.
“It’s about learning what it is like in a race situation, it teaches younger kids how to marshal, the starting process, diving and taking those anxieties away,” he said.
Five Lithgow swimmers will be representing the Mountains and Plains region at the AIS in Canberra this Saturday, March 24.
