“It was brilliant. It was pretty much everything up from the previous years, with 4000 in total through the gate for the weekend,” the society’s publicity officer, Linda Hine said.
She said that number was double last year’s when the Show was plagued by rain.
“The weather was fabulous this year. It was well advertised. And we had a bull ride and a lot more things on, but I think the weather had a lot to do with it.”
President of the Lithgow Show Society Dave Peters said he still would have liked to see more locals attend.
“It was one of those shows where we would have liked to have seen more people come. But the ones who were here had a good time,” he said.
“People who had a better time this year are our best advertisement for next year.”
The show made enough money to fund another.
“Financially, with our sponsorship we will be able to survive,” Mr Peters said.
“We would like to have had more people through the gate. But we’ll have enough money to have another show next year.”
Ms Hine said the show society was already planning for 2019, and hoping to improve on this year’s offerings, which included helicopter rides, a swap meet and two nights of rodeo entertainment.
“The helicopter was brilliant, it hardly stopped. That was a great attraction,” she said.
“As for the swap meet, I had fifty stall holders. And while it wasn’t supported customer-wise all that brilliantly, we will tweak it next year to be held on the Sunday. The stall holders are very happy with that because they were please with the show as a whole.”
The society is planning to run the Show next year over three days.
“We’ll have the normal show events and a major event on the Friday night,” she said.
“On the Saturday we’ll have the ring events during the show, again with a major attraction on Saturday night plus the fireworks. And we’re going to be holding the swap meet and an all machines display day on the Sunday.”
She also flagged a bike demonstration on Sunday.
“It’s going to be bigger, better and more fantastic.”
At the Show Elyse Hudson was named Lithgow Showgirl. She mentioned her aim was to bring more young adults into the society.
“If there is anyone interested in joining our happy family of volunteers we would love them on board,” Ms Hine said.
She thanked sponsors, Lithgow City Council and attendees for their support.
