The event will start at 5pm and popcorn, drinks and a barbecue will be available for a gold coin donation.
“All funds raised will go to Lithgow Community Projects to support young people currently experiencing homelessness,” Lithgow Mayor Stephen Lesslie said.
The movie will begin at 6pm and finish around 8pm, and Mayor Lesslie encouraged those who attended to wear warm clothes and bring blankets and bean bags for a more comfortable movie experience.
This year’s Youth Week theme, ‘Unity Through Diversity’, was set by young people who said that diversity was an important theme for them in NSW.
Youth Week is the largest celebration for people aged between 12 and 24 in NSW and hundreds of activities and events will be organised by young people across the state.
Mayor Lesslie said he wanted to thank the Youth Council for supporting this event, picking the movie and helping with promotion.
“Youth Week is a time to recognise the valuable contribution of young people,” Cr Lesslie said.
“I’d also like to thank our key sponsor, Telstra for providing the outdoor movie screen and supporting this year’s Youth Week event. It’s set to be a great night out and I can’t imagine a better location for an outdoor cinema experience than the historic Blast Furnace Park.”
The film BFG was chosen because it is suitable for all ages and follows the story of a girl, Sophie, who encounters the Big Friendly Giant who, despite his intimidating appearance, turns out to be a kind-hearted soul.
This is a family-friendly event (smoke, drug and alcohol free) proudly supported by Lithgow Council and the Department of Family and Community Services.
