Chifley-Lithgow’s Remote Area Firefighting Team (RAFT) was deployed by helicopter to the fire burning out of control at Belerada Creek, at Gowan, north-west of Bathurst, dealing with spot fires in the area.
The hot, windy conditions over the weekend saw a total fire ban put in place along with a very high danger rating. The total fire ban continued on Monday.
“The wind has been the main concern,” RFS Chifley-Lithgow team operations officer Brett Taylor said.
“The (Belerada Creek) fire still has a bit to run before it hits containment lines so there is the danger of spotting if the wind picks up.”
Lithgow Fire and Rescue crews were also on the scene at the Mount Canobolas fire.
