As part of the multi-sport event, Angus will contest the 100m sprint, 800m race, long jump and shot put.
Angus said his preparation would not change as a result of the selection – he would keep up his training regime in the hands of his Springwood-based coach, Rick Berrell.
That will be on top of the events in which he had already qualified to compete – the discus and the shot put.
The Year 5 student from Lithgow Public School has had a feverish preparation period for the Pacific School Games event.
Competing with the Springwood District Athletic Club, he took home four gold and a silver at a Little Athletics carnival held in Sydney on November 5.
Competing up an age group in the Under 13's and hefting a 600 gram spear for the first time, Angus broke a record to take gold in the javelin with a throw of 32.9m.
He also took home gold in the shot put, long jump and discus, and a silver in the 100m sprint.
Fast in the water as he is on land, Angus followed up his performance by taking home medals in the pool.
Competing with the Lithgow Swimming Club at Glenbrook on Sunday, he took home two silver medals and two bronze.
He claimed silver in the 50m fly, silver in the 50m breaststroke, bronze in the 50m free and bronze in the 50m backstroke
At the end of the day, he was selected as one of the eight fastest in the Under 12’s field to compete in a freestyle dash for cash.
In an effort to help Angus support his costs in competing at the Pacific School Games, a fundraising raffle is being held.
If you would like to participate, you can purchase tickets at Richardson & Wrench in Lithgow or at the Lithgow Public School office.
The Year 5 student from Lithgow Public School will be joined at the games by Cooerwull Public School students Blake Fittler and Ryan Wells. It will be exciting to cheer on so many representative athletes from the region.
The Pacific School Games will be held between December 3 and 9 in Adelaide. This year marks the 10th time it has been staged.
