The senior boys competed against 41 other teams from around the state and performed admirably until the final siren.

They eventually fell to Sacred Heart Mosman A in the decider 42-24, however the game was closer than the score suggests.

Acting assistant principal Rebecca Rizzo travelled with the team to the two day tournament in Goulburn and was full of praise for the young basketballers.

“Fantastic achievement, so proud of the boys,” she said.

“Not only their skills on the day but also their sportsmanship throughout the carnival was outstanding.

“The school couldn’t have been prouder of them.”

It was a bright and early start for the senior boys with the first game tipping off at 7am on the Saturday.

Their performances on day one placed the side in division one for Sunday’s knockout fixtures.

The quarter-final ended in a 18-16 victory over St Patrick's Albury A and the seniors eclipsed St Christopher's Panania in the semi-final 19-15.

A host of the St Pat’s players also represent the Lithgow Lazers basketball team.

“Great sportsmen they are, they’re very talented,” Mrs Rizzo said.

The St Pat’s junior boys also performed strongly to finish eighth out over 30 schools.

“They did extremely well,” Mrs Rizzo said.

Five of the juniors went into the state tournament having never played representative basketball before.

“For them to have that achievement, it’s a real credit to the school, their parents and their basketball association.

“It was a pleasure to go away with such a great group of boys and parents who are very supportive.”

Mrs Rizzo thanked the parents for their support plus coaches Adam Marjoram and Scott Simcoe for mentoring the teams.

“And thank you to the boys for being a great bunch of students.”

The tournament was a major operation with 28 schools,127 teams and to 1000 players participating in the event.
