It is a chance for people to stand up for the prevention of violence against women and Lithgow will make its stand on Friday, November 24.
Now in its second year, emergency services workers will walk through Lithgow’s Main Street to show their support for the cause. People are encouraged to join in.
“I am inviting everyone to walk with us,” White Ribbon Day ambassador Darryl Goodwin said.
Mr Goodwin, who is also a Lithgow City Councillor, police officer and retained firefighter, particularly encouraged men to show their support for women who were currently or had been in violent relationships.
“It is to show that the men of the community do not condone domestic violence in any way,” he said.
Officers from Lithgow Police, NSW Fire and Rescue, NSW Ambulance and Lithgow Correctional Centre will meet at 4pm in Queen Elizabeth Park.
“It is the second walk we have organised and we are expecting a large amount of support from the local community,” Mr Goodwin said.
He said he believed it would exceed last year’s numbers.
White ribbons will be for sale at the starting point with the walk proceeding up Main Street to the Lithgow Workmen’s Club.
The Lithgow Highland Pipe Band and Emergency service vehicles will accompany the walkers.
Following the walk, organisers have invited people to the club’s main function room for more information regarding domestic violence. A fundraising trivia night will be held at the Workies from 6pm. Tickets for this event need to be purchased.
Cost will be $20 per person, with additional money raised throughout the evening through challenges and fun games.
More information and table bookings can be made by contacting Lithgow Community Projects on (02) 6351 2230.
The day will help to raise money for White Ribbon Day and Lithgow Partnerships Against Domestic Violence and Family Abuse, which is known as Lithgow Cares.
It will be a fun evening of trivia and games with lots of prizes on offer.
Local workplaces, organisations, sporting clubs, businesses, schools and community members can book tables of 10 people for the event. Individuals can also book.
