Lithgow City Council mayor Stephen Lesslie gave an address at the event, in which he discussed the economic future of the valley, which he said had changed substantially since the Vale Hall opened on October 25, 1947.
“So many of (the Vale Ladies) brothers, fathers and husbands worked in the mines, or in the small arms factory,” he said.
“We are now in a state of transition.”
Vale Ladies president Jan Hawken and Lithgow City Council Mayor Stephen Lesslie cut the commemorative cake and the group sang happy birthday.
Guests Graciela Espinoza and Mario Mestanza, originally from Peru, heard about the event by chance and decided to spend the weekend in Lithgow to attend it and the Halloween celebrations. They favoured the guests with a Peruvian anniversary song.
