It was always going to be a great race on paper but the Bryan Foyle Open eclipsed all expectations at the King’s Auto Parts Cullen Bullen Raceway season opener last Saturday evening hosted by the Portland District Motor Sports Club.
The open wheeler classes were reduced to just three Modlites thus reducing the meeting to just 24 events, but boy oh boy were they great quality.
Topping the program was the 25 lap Bryan Foyle Open for Street Stockers and its successive eight qualifying heats.
Chris Marino won the opening heat from Australia Number One Shaun Davoodi and Mitchell Duggan while a pile up in turn four between Corey Foyle, Kevin Sawdy and Shane Carlson gave victory in the second heat to Andrew Blackley from Blake Eveleigh and Foyle.
Heat three went to Duggan from Queensland number one Brendan Wakeman and Marino while heat four gave Foyle victory over Eveleigh and Blackley.
Wakeman took heat five from Foyle and Marino with Blackley taking out the sixth heat from Duggan and Carlson.
Heat seven gave Marino the laurels over Foyle and Davoodi leaving Duggan to win the eighth and final heat from Eveleigh and defending Bryan Foyle Open winner Shane Carlson.
Mitchell Duggan took a flag to flag win of the Bryan Foyle feature from poll chased all the way by Chris Marino and young Blake Eveleigh who came out of fifth grid spot to eventually take second place from Marino in the dying stages after some amazing lap after lap dices.
Duggan’s delight was evident with his victory lap donuts as it was announced he had also broken the lap record.
Andrew Blackley finished forth from Wakeman,Foyle with a flat rear tyre,Carlson,Sawdy and Rodney Jones.
Great close racing also came from the Lithgow City Council Four Cylinder class with Josh Goldie taking the first and third heat but Keil Swadling blasted back in his re livered Corolla to win the other two heats and the twelve lap feature from Goldie,John Spicer,Bek Giffin,John Swadling and Andrew Kingsman.
Twelve year old Jaiden Healey again won the Portland RSL Club Junior feature followed closely by Jackson Goldie, diminutive Max Essai plus debutants Jake Clark and Chelsea Essai while Dean Giffin and Joshua Forgione were sidelined on the same midrace lap for separate car problems.
Healey won three of the lead up heats with Forgione taking the second heat from the very consistant Goldie.
Rounding out the meeting were the open wheeler Modlites with Andrew reigning supreme winning two heats and the feature with Ronnie Scheers Jnr taking heats two and three.
