Watts has recorded strong results at the National Capital Tour in Canberra, and finished with a win at the NSW Time Trial Championships in Goulburn.
Emily, although is focusing on cycling these days, is still pounding the pavement and finding new ways to succeed.
With the triathlon season around the corner, Emily will take this running form into the season. Last season Emily was unbeaten in the local Bathurst Long Course events and interclub event and looks again to put in a strong season.
Unfortunately with her focus on cycling she won’t get to many events away from Bathurst but still loves triathlon and competing against the best in the Central West in the open women’s category.
It was a big surprise for Emily to have such success running this season, as she has not spent too much time training. Running is where Emily’s success in sport started and her performances show she can still put a good run together when she puts her mind to it.
Emily ran in the 3000m run at Homebush CIS Athletics Carnival hoping to sit in for the start of the race and see what she had left in the tank at the back end. But it was not to be.
Emily came out of the blocks fast and lead the way for the first three quarters of the race. Emily was then overtaken and quickly gapped, but she hung in for a final push with about 250m left and quickly caught up to the leader, pushing straight past and sprinting to a clear win down the final 100m.
Emily tried her luck again at the Bathurst Edgell Jog, racing for her school, The Scots School Bathurst.
She has previously placed second and third at the event but, straight out of the start, Emily placed herself at the front of the race and gave herself every chance to win.
She was challenged at the top of the long hill midway but held off and pushed away into a clear win in the end.
Back onto two wheels, Emily had a return to racing and with some encouraging results at the National Capital Tour, off the back of hours of technique training and not much endurance work.
Into a block of training Emily quickly prepared for the NSW Time Trial Championships in Goulburn. Aiming to make it three time trial State championships in a row, Emily left everything out on the course and in windy conditions brought home another unexpected win, and state title in the U19 age category when still 16 years old.
Back into some solid training, Emily is preparing for her first trip to the Tour of Bright, Victoria in December around the hills of Hotham and the National Road Championships in January in Buninyong, Victoria.
Emily would like to thank the local businesses that support her and without would make competing far and wide more difficult. You can follow her on social media on racewithmeemilywatts.
