Four generation's of Toni MacDonald’s family were part of the school community, starting with her father, Max Hoy, followed by her children and now grandchildren. Her grandson Max Ellery is the current school captain.

Ms MacDonald, Director Public Schools NSW Bathurst Network of Principals, said her father attended Cooerwull in “hard times”.
“Times when you were considered to be the lucky kid to have shoes,” she said.
“It’s a place where you can feel the history within the walls and it has a reputation that has been held in high regard – continues to be held in high regard,” she said.
Lithgow’s Patricia Thompson, who has had generations follow on at the school, also has fond memories of her time as a student. Mrs Thompson recalled being taught by principal George Redmond in Year 6.
“He was a kind and much loved teacher,” she recalled.
