Lithgow City Men's Bowling Club

LITHGOW city bowlers are slowly returning from their winter hibernation in distant parts.

Although there are more familiar faces around the clubhouse this is not reflected in numbers on the greens.

The weather has not helped as well, with daytime afternoon temperatures struggling to get into the low teens.

Such were the weather conditions that there were insufficient bowlers willing to constitute a game and get out on the green.

The social bowls results to hand gave a win to Stan Campbell and Mick Wholohan with 15+18 in last Wednesday’s men’s event.

Filling second spot with 14+18 were Ron Baker, Darrell Wright and Ron Thomson.

The only other result was from Sunday when Graham Pitt and Lesley Wright combined to perfection to easily beat Peter Kearney and Gloria Clarke, taking top spot with 12+14.

The other game resulted in a win 9+9 win to Richard Forbes and Darrell Wright over Bev Wiggins and Rod King.

There have been a number of the men bowlers getting their pairs games into order in readiness for the annual Men's Spring Pairs events over the October Long Weekend.

To be held on Saturday and Sunday, September 30 and October 1.

This event carries $5000 in prize money, drawing a large number of top bowlers from across the state.

Entries close on Monday, September 25 at 5pm and lists are available at the clubhouse.

At the end of the month is another popular event which allows men and women bowlers alike the chance to showcase their versatility.

Appropriately, the event is the JB Kelly Mixed Versatility Sixes and carries $1500 in prize money.

In this event the teams of six are split into two teams of triples for the morning play and then a fours and a pairs team in the afternoon.

On the club championship front, nominations are now open for the McMurtrie Mixed Pairs and the club triples and fours championships.

The mixed pairs entries close on August 27, the triples on September 24 and fours on October 10.
