To lighten the load of those in need St Paul’s church in Lithgow and St Stephen’s Portland have again joined forces with Anglicare to collect and distribute donations of non-perishable food, clothes and toiletries.
The Winter Appeal collection day will be running this Saturday, July 22.
Winter Appeal organiser Nick McKinney said the appeal was a chance build connections in the community.
“There’s a lot of people that are living on the streets and there’s a lot of people that are in need of food so it’s an opportunity to reach out to those people,” he said.
Volunteers from St Paul’s and St Stephen’s will be stationed at the major supermarket’s in Lithgow, Wallerawang and Portland on Saturday morning from around 8.30am.
Mr McKinney encouraged community members to buy one or two extra items to place in the trolleys and help those who need it most.
Portland FoodWorks have kindly donated supplies for a barbeque for residents donating food at that location.
Food and other supplies can also be brought to the St Paul’s church hall in Roy Street between 8.30am-11.30am and St Stephen’s Portland in Williwa Street between 9am-10.30am.
The items will then be packed into hampers and distributed by Anglicare and other local charities.
Mr McKinney thanked W. Dick & Co Removals and Storage for donating the boxes in which the hampers will be packed.
