A strong opening half saw the Saints leading by three goals, but Panthers showed why it has won so many premierships by coming back hard after the break.
When Brandon Horner scored his third goal of the match for Panthers with eight minutes left, St Pat’s was under the pump to hold its 5-4 lead.
Horner came close to forcing a draw, but his effort from a penalty corner with five minutes left was parried into the crossbar.
St Pat’s maintained its status as the only undefeated side in the competition and increased its lead at the top of the ladder.
Panthers coach David Marshall said the team started out well but had problems with defence and discipline.
“We lost our defence structure, it just went out the window, it was terrible. But the second half we came back really well, and scored three more goals.”
The team also had two goals denied.
“I think if we had drawn the game, it would have been a fair result. But it was our fault for getting ourselves in that position in the first half,” Marshall said.
Despite a stellar run this season, Marshall thinks St Pat’s can be defeated.
“They are a good side and have gone undefeated this year, but they’re definitely not unbeatable. We just have to play a bit smarter.
“We’ll be working on general talk within the players, communication, and our marking. Our defensive structure more than anything else.”
Panthers are still second-place on the Premier League table. St Pat’s has an eight point lead.
“We definitely need to be in the top two to get a second bite of the cherry,” Mr Marshall said.
