“We’ve already had a cold front pass through, which is now moving into the Tasman Sea,” Weatherzone senior meteorologist Jacob Cronje said.
“It’s left a cool southerly circulation and high pressure system in its wake. There will be a run of quite cold days.”
Mr Cronje said sub-zero mornings are to be expected in Lithgow this weekend.
“The low will be between -1 and -5 on Saturday morning. The daytime maximum on Sunday is 12 degrees.
“It’s going to be a very cold weekend.”
Rains developing early next week will help warm daytime temperatures.
“The clouds will keep it a bit warmer but I wouldn’t expect daytime temperatures to go over 12 degrees over the next seven days.”
The weekend’s minimums fall well below the June average.
“June’s average minimum temperature is about 2.4 degrees, so the weekend is going to be possibly seven degrees under that,” Mr Cronje said.
He said there were no predictions for snow.
“At this point models are only predicting snow in isolated resort areas, at least for now.”
Bureau of Meteorology forecasts for Lithgow throughout July predict a temperature drop from June.
The median maximum temperature for the month is predicted to be 10 degrees, while the median minimum temperature is just 0.5 degrees.
It will remain relatively dry with a predicted rainfall of 10-25mm over the month.
