“I have been approached by residents that live around there regarding the proposal, and that’s the basis on which I’m calling it in,” Cr McAndrew said.
“Calling it in just means it will not be the decision of council staff, but the full deliberation of a council meeting.”
The development application submitted in April proposes to change the use of the residence at 53 Ferro Street into a public place of worship and temporary accommodation.
The house at 53 Ferro Street is listed online as a place for muslims to pray in congregation as ‘Al hadid Masjid’ (mosque) and ‘Al Hadid Musallah’ (prayer room).
The council will note the application has been called in at tonight’s meeting, May 29. It will then be determined at an Ordinary Council Meeting on a later date.
A report and recommendation based on the assessment of the application under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act has not yet been made. Submissions are still being accepted by council.
