After two days, comprising of a total of five games, the winners of the Ted Corlis Memorial Shield were announced.
The defending champions of 2016, a trio of bowlers from Gulgong and Portland, Darrin Elbourn, John Mobbs and Darryl Kirwood took home the trophy.
Players forming sixteen teams travelled from Wallerawang, Albion Park, Gulgong, Lithgow, Trangie and Rylstone to enjoy the Portland green in superb weather.
The local Portland side, Mick Bionda, Ronny Baker and Kenny Clarke came second place. A Gulgong team comprised of Lynn Grey, David Woods and Keith Waye placed third.
“The competition has been going for about twenty or 25 years,” said winner Darryl Kirkwood.
“It’s named after a voluntary green keeper, Ted Corlis. They named the green after him after he died for all the voluntary work he did. He was a stalwart of the club.”
Mr Kirkwood thanked the competition’s sponsors: Westcourt Wines of Mudgee, Williams and Sons Butcher, Coronation Hotel, Portland Pharmacy, Portland Foodworks, Portland Newsagency and Portland Post Office.
