Close to 350 people turned out for Lithgow’s first Walk ‘n’ Talk at the Tony Luchetti Showground.
Former NRL player Shannon Nevin established the initiative in Manly late last year.
"When people take their own lives… you can't describe how upsetting it is especially in a community as small as Lithgow," Mr Nevin said.
"There's a massive support network here in Lithgow and if you guys join together and you do it regularly and understand that there's a network of people that care, then hopefully moving forward a lot of lives are going to be saved."
Lithgow joins other walks that have started in areas such as the Central Coast, Western Sydney, Gold Coast and Brisbane.
Organisers will be seeking to run a second walk in the next few months.
