Lithgow’s Ryan Wells picked up first place in the under 10s high jump event.
The club also came away with a handful of places.
Luke Thompson placed third in the hurdles and Tasmyn Davies placed third in discus. Kobi Egan and Lillie Healey placed eighth in the triple jump and 1500 metre running race respectively.
Michelle Sharp, who volunteered to coach the Lithgow Little As over this year’s competition season, said it came down to the opportunity for the participants to hone their skills.
“They were so keen I thought I would help them,” Ms Sharp said.
“My honest opinion is that the kids did so well because they trained this year. They put the effort in themselves and the results showed.
“It just shows how talented the young ones are if given the chance to have a bit of coaching.”
“For a club of our size to even get to the state championships is really big. Just to qualify for state was an achievement,” said Graham Healey, Lithgow Athletic Club’s President.
To qualify for the competition, club members competed in a zone competition for central western clubs and then went on to a regional competition that took in competitors all the way to Broken Hill.
“Placing in the state comp is great given that in the biggest clubs east of the ranges there would be kids with their own coaches and focussing on just one event,” Mr Healey said.
Little Athletics’ season will be coming to an end on Friday, March 31. Mr Healey said the club will be hosting an informal session for their last day of training to celebrate a successful competition season.
“We’ll just be having a bit of fun,” he said.
