However the weather was not enough to stop the cricket with 12 teams braving the conditions.
The President of the Lithgow District Cricket Association, Danny Whitty started proceedings introducing Phil Sharp, a brother of Brian, who made a lovely and moving speech about his brother and reasons behind the seven-a-side knockout.
The A Grade winners were the Cotton Runts who beat the long existing participating team The Norms.
The Norms usually have a good run at the cricket knockout being winners for several years but this year the Cotton Runts were just too good on the day.
The Cotton Runts team consisted of captain Ben Sheehan, Chris Guigni, Hayden Crowder, Chris Redding, Dallas Tilley, Ryan Gurney & Josh Howarth.
The B Grade Winner's were The Boys who had a good win over Westfund. A huge congratulations goes out to Westfund as this is the first time in a long time they have made the finals.
The Boys consisted of Will Hutchinson, Ethan Howard (Chocko's Grandson), Kennedy Brown, Captain Pawan Gajula, Kiran Gajula, Will Brown & Luke Brown.
Phil Sharp was delighted to be asked to present the winnings and trophies over to the winners.
He thanked everyone involved for supporting the day which is helping the local community and keeping Chocko's memory alive.
He also hopes that this day will continue for another 40 years and so on.
In all $1340 was raised for the Lithgow branch of Can Assist.
All the teams generously donated there winnings back to support Can Assist which was greatly appreciated by everyone.
Volunteers of Can Assist, Leslie Townsend & Cynthia Thornton were on hand to receive the funds which also included a $500.00 donation from Westfund Health Insurance.
This was presented by long time staff member & daughter of Brian, Natalie Sharp.
Leslie Townsend spoke on behalf of Can Assist who thanked Natalie Sharp, Adrian Sharp & the Lithgow Cricket Association for the generous donations which are helping members of our local community affected by Cancer with the assistance of financial support.
Natalie & Adrian can not thank the Lithgow Cricket Association enough & words can't describe how thankful we are.
Our deepest gratitude and appreciation goes out to President Danny Whitty, Brian 'Red' Slaven & Robyn Whitty who are the "backbone" of making the Brian 'Chocko' Sharp Memorial Charity seven-a-side cricket knockout such an annual success.
