Mr Abbott, the current Member for Warringah, paid tribute to the health fund’s dedication to both their members and regional Australia and the spirit in which the fund has continued to grow.
“As soon as you get out of the city, as soon as you get out west in particular, there is a different spirit,” he said.
“It is a real honour for me to be here. It is a real honour for me to celebrate today that which is best in our natures, that which is best in our character, and which Westfund has done so much to promote over 140 years”.
Mr Abbott was pleased to receive a donation from Westfund Health to Soldier On, a charity which supports returned servicemen and women and one which Mr Abbott has supported through the Pollie Pedal.
He was also one of the first to use Westfund’s state of the art recording facilities, leaving a message of congratulations and support.
