Lithgow City Council staff working opposite the school, parents and more all stopped to see an overwhelming mass of students sing their hearts out, and it was all for a good reason.
The school was taking part in the “Count Us In” Celebration Day, an event for schools right across the country to show the importance and benefits of music as an education subject.
Research shows learning music can help students with self-confidence, self-discipline and teamwork.
On Thursday, schools across Australia all gathered to sing the same song at the same time, creating one gigantic school chorus.
The song chosen for the event was created by young students from all across the country in collaboration with professional musicians.
This year’s song was called “Let It Play”, and was composed with the help of musician John Foreman and former Play School host and actor Jay Laga’aia.
Lithgow Public School music teacher Belinda Trounce said it was the second year the school had taken part in “Count Us In”, and this time they even added a recorder group.
“More than 500,000 students took part in the day across the country,” Ms Trounce said.
“It’s really valuable to get every single child at school involved in music education, and to get our students to showcase their abilities.”
