Each new MDT comes with a GPS and touch screen technology along with a bigger screen size compared to the previous models that were being used.
Broken Hill intensive care paramedic Simon Potter, who was an electronics technician in a previous career, was on hand to train Lithgow paramedics in the use of the new MDTs.
“The new MDT will promote greater accuracy where a location is and response times.”
Mr Potter said it would assist paramedics in remote areas where they are not so familiar with the location and provides a tracking service of the vehicle.
There is a button paramedics can press that provides their exact position.
A function that is especially helpful for any emergency helicopter response, Mr Potter said.
Lithgow is the second Ambulance Service of New South Wales station to get the new MDT technology, with Bathurst the initial location for the rollout.
The rollout will continue across the NSW Ambulance Western Division to Broken Hill before heading north and then south in the state.
“This is the start of an integrated system for further expansion in coming years with other communications technology in ambulances,” Mr Potter said.
Mr Potter said the old models will become spares for their colleagues in Sydney and other NSW cities where their use will continue.
