Magpies outscored the Panthers 20-7 in the second half but their sluggish start was too much for them to overcome.
“It all started in warm-up. We came out and we were just really lethargic and the attitude just wasn’t right. I tried to get them up and get them going but Panthers scored those couple of tries and we’re on the back foot,” Magpies player-coach Rory Brien said.
“Credit to Panthers though. They were strong in the ruck. They were winning the tackles and beating us down the middle.”
