IT has been a lean few years for the ALP in the Calare electorate but Bathurst Regional Council member Jess Jennings believes he might just be the man to put his party back on track.

Cr Jennings already knows who three opponents will be but the main target will be the Nationals newly anointed Andrew Gee who is currently the State Member for Orange.
Nowhere has the rejection of Labor been more evident than across the Lithgow area where the party had struggled to win a single booth in recent elections at all three levels of government.
And this in what was in the past always regarded as Labor heartland.
But Cr Jennings believes the political wheel is again turning full circle, particularly in Calare where the retirement of Mr Cobb makes it a whole new ball game.
Cr Jennings was a familiar figure in Lithgow during the last federal election when he campaigned in an environmentally conscious fashion — by bicycle.
He was back in Lithgow in recent weeks presenting his credentials.
His theme was the level of federal neglect of regional development generally.
“The Coalition has a history of ignoring the needs of regional Australia,” he said.
