INDIVIDUALS and groups from the Lithgow arts community have been recognised at the Greater City of Lithgow Arts Council annual awards.
There were about 70 people attending the function held in the new venue The Showroom at the Lithgow Workmens Club.
Arts Council president Rae Burton chaired a very pleasant evening where many people and groups were recognised for their contribution to the arts in Lithgow.
The Arts Council thanks the Lithgow Workmens Club for their donation of this facility as it greatly added to the success of the evening.
The aim of the Arts Council is to promote all facets of the arts in Lithgow and members encourage people to nominate any one who is perceived to have contributed to the cultural life of Lithgow.
Originally this evening was a combined effort with Delta Electricity but with its demise the Arts Council has worked hard to find other sponsors.
This year sponsorship came from D and J Ford, Lithgow Workmens Club, 2LT, Lean and Bennett, Lithgow High School, Lithgow Musical Society and Westfund.
“We are extremely grateful to these groups as without their support the event could not take place,” Mrs Burton said.
A former winner Bridget Cama provided the entertainment.
There are four categories for awards: Primary school student, student to 18, adults and group.
The winners in each section were: Primary student Dia MacNamara; High School student Courtney Clarke; Adult section Leanne Hawkins and Bob Sutor and the Group section Beehive.
The next round of nominations for this year’s awards can be sent to the Arts Council through forms available at the Library or the Lithgow Mercury or to the president Rae Burton c/- Lithgow High School.
Meetings of the Arts Council take place on the second Wednesday of each month in the lounge room of Treeview estate.
Members would love to see new faces there. Come and help them enrich the cultural life of Lithgow.
