PORTLAND Olympic Pool has been a hive of activity over the past couple of weeks as schools throughout the district dodge the poor weather to hold their annual swimming carnivals at the venue.
Buses ferry the students to Portland from Wallerawang and Lithgow due to the Lithgow 50 metre pool being out of action through renovations.
Portland is a first class venue with plenty of shade trees, a good canteen from which the pool staff have been feeding ‘the masses’ with sausage sandwiches and the like for lunch.
All the schools have enjoyed good numbers of volunteers to help out with the running of the carnival and a big thanks goes out to them.
Photos from the Cooerwull School Carnival are featured on pages 20 and 21 of this edition and a pictorial round-up from the St Patrick’s carnival can be seen in Tuesday’s Mercury.
