LITHGOW City Bowling Club’s Ian Townsend is the club’s last representative left in the Central Tablelands District Bowling Association’s singles event.
Townsend is the final survivor from the 11 City bowlers entered in the title quest.
In his quarter final Townsend had to overcome an City bowler, Mike Johnson, who put up dogged opposition before advancing to the semi finals to be played tomorrow with a 31-27 win.
And due to the vagauries of a blind draw, Townsend also had to eliminate yet another City bowler, Al Kenniff, in their second round match up.
Making it through the first round were Graham Pitt who defeated former champion Adam Favell 31-29 and Jeff Madden who accounted for another City bowler in Richard Forbes 31-19.
It was a round of mixed success for City when bowlers had finished their second round games.
Pitt was defeated by Mudgee’s J Marskell and Madden overcame Darrin Elbourne of Portland 31-21.
Mudgee’s P Farrell defeated Peter Kearney 31-20, Stan Campbell found the talents of C Graham of Mudgee too hot with a 31-10 defeat, R Atkinson of Mudgee was also too strong for City’s Jim Lahache, winning 31-20 while Mike Johnson had to fight hard to overcome Lithgow Workies representative Steve Lesslie.
The only hope City had of gettingmore than one bowler through to the semi finals lay with Jeff Madden, as Johnson and Townsend were due to do battle.
Playing their third game in two days Madden and Marksell faced off, Marskell triumphing 31-24 in a hard affair.
For Townsend it’ll be back onto the green at 9am tomorrow when he comes up against C Graham of Mudgee.
The other semi final pits Marskell against P Farrell, representing Mudgee.
With all the action taking place with the singles on Saturday and all day Sunday, rink space was at a premium for the social bowlers.
