ONE of the most welcome lessons for students of the Lithgow High School has been the introduction of the robotics course.
This follows a significant investment of $330,000 by Google into bringing the course to school involving science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
As one of the three non-for-profit groups that are part of this landmark partnership FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Australia has started.
FIRST provided a robotics set, teacher mentoring and support and the Lithgow High students are excited to see just what sort of robot they can create.
Lithgow High was one of 150 schools to get STEM and to make things even better Energy Australia has allowed technician Ben Hawkins to act as amentor and teacher over a number of days to work alongside the students.
Students were soaking up the experience and wisdom coming from Ben Hawkins.
This support from EnergyAustralia has been invaluable with Ben being able to provide wonderful insight, explanations and guidance to the students.
The school students are thankful to EnergyAustralia/Mt Piper for allowing Ben to mentor the team for the past few days.
Hawkins is a former student at Lithgow High School and was impressed with the enthusiasm and interest that the students showed towards the robotics.
