GREATER Lithgow has been listed among 60 per cent of the State’s local government areas considered potentially unviable in the IPART Fit for the Future inquiry commissioned by the NSW Government.
The report released this afternoon is considered likely to trigger a new round of council amalgamation demands.
The shock finding leaves Lithgow in good company with Bathurst, Blue Mountains and Dubbo the only major council’s across the region considered fit for the future.
Lithgow is included on the hit list with Orange and Mudgee councils.
The Sydney City Council was the biggest victim of the critical report.
Implications of the report are not immediately clear but the report is certain to trigger wide reaction in local government circles.
