THE sport of hockey dominated the 2014 Reg Cowden Memorial Junior and Seniors Sports awards with the Junior award going to hockey stars Amelia 'Millie' Leard while the Seniors went to Brandan Horner.

They headed a star studded field of sportspersons with the presentation night being held at the Lithgow Workmens in front of a capacity crowd.
Organiser Samantha Brown from Lithgow Council said: “The only downside to the night was the news that the special guest Olympian Suzy Balogh suffered a car accident on the way from Sydney and was hospitalised.
“It was excellent to see so many people in attendance and a big thanks goes out to long time sponsors LJ Hooker.”
Lithgow Mayor Maree Statham was in attendance and had the pleasant duty to present the various awards.
Millie and Brandan were worthy winners with their achievements and representations over the past year exceptional.
Other award winners were:
Junior Team Achievement of the Year: The Lithgow Under 18s Girls Hockey team who took out the state championships.
Senior Team Achievement of the Year: Lithgow Workies Lazers Basketball Men's team who went within one point of winning their state league competition finishing runners-up.
Laurie Muir Official of the Year trophy: Brian Slaven for cricket who has been associated with the sport of cricket for many decades.
Bunny Abbott Volunteer of the Year trophy: Rae Swift for basketball with Rae another long time official.
Mac Scott Memorial Trophy for All Round Sportsmanship: Emily Watts who is an athlete on the move having excelled in athletics, cycling and triathlons.
Whitty Perpetual Trophy for 2014: Cody Phillips who is one of the many exciting youngsters with a big future.
Reg Cowden Memorial Sports Star Encouragement Award: Zoe Tracey-Gee for physical culture International Sports Star of the Year Trophy for 2014:
Brandan Horner for hockey with Brandan representing at the highest of levels.
Eric Arnold Memorial trophy: Lorraine Keay who has been involved with soccer for many decades.
The continued support of the Reg Cowden Memorial Sportsstars by Jamie and Kirsty Giokaris of LJ Hooker and new sponsor the Lithgow Council was acknowledged along with the excellent organisation of the night by the Council's Samantha Brown.
