It was a game where the Lazers showed flashes of brilliance and other periods where they were a little scrappy but they cruised to a 79-58 win and were never in any danger of being beaten.
It was another good crowd of local supporters who witnessed some great slam dunks that were appreciated by the younger fans.
Kieran Osborn and Blake Edwards led the way in the first quarter scoring 13 points between them and were well supported by Jon Fenton and Kurt Northey who controlled the boards at each end of the court.
Lazers took the first quarter 19-4.
Enjoying a big lead, coach Paul Fenton the chance to rotate his bench sharing court time between all his players.
Lazers continued their early good form in the second quarter scoring at will with fast breaks and pin point shooting to take the second quarter 21-13 and giving them a halftime lead 40-17.
Coach Fenton spoke of the importance of cutting out the dribble and let the ball do the work, but following the break, it was the Scorchers that came out firing.
They changed their defence to zone, which worked well against the Lazers’ fast moving offence.
The Scorchers picked up the game and frustrated the Lazers who looked unsettled as they turned over possession allowing the Scorchers to take the quarter 23-22.
Fenton went to their bench for additional impact with the Scorchers again taking the quarter by one point at 18-17.
The Lazers did enough in the first half to score a win with the final score being 79-58.
Top scorers for Lazers were Keiran Osborne 17, Adam Marjoram 14, John Fenton 13 and Blake Edwards 11.
Springwood’s best were Joe Conroy 16 and David Perrin 11.
Although happy with the win the coaching staff know they have some minor tidying up in preparation for their home game on Sunday at noon against the Liverpool Spartans.
They will not have the luxury to ease off in the second half as they did against Springwood as the Spartans will make them pay.
