Both semi final games went to the last game to get a winner and it was a long night for all.
The elimination semi final was between home team and fourth placed Miscues versus fifth placed Helmets played at Club Lithgow with the loser bowing out until 2015.
Helmets were eventually the winners with three black ball results which could have gone either way.
Miscues now put their cues in the rack until 2015.
The qualifying semi final was played at the Workies with second placed Tall Timbers playing third placed Red Sox.
Tall Timbers won this in a very close result.
Elimination semi final
Hunter Mining Methods Miscues v Lithgow Valley Storage Helmets: Dennis Goodwin played Dianne Stait in an interesting game as Stait started well with good potting.
Goodwin was not letting her get too far in front and was also potting just as well.
This was a game of cat and mouse with neither player giving anything away.
With four balls left on the table Stait only needed one of these while Goodwin needed them all.
Try as she might Stait could not get that final ball to win.
Goodwin sunk them all to win 49-43.
Matt Tattersall played Mal Hewitt and this was a great game by two good players.
Both played a similar game to the first game as it was cat and mouse tactics with neither giving the other a good chance to have a run on points.
The lead changed a few times with Hewitt coming home strongly and in front on the black.
There were a few accidental snookers by Tattersall that was frustrating Hewitt.
Both Hewitt and Tattersall tried hard to sink the black but it was Tattersall who coolly potted it to win 52-47.
Kevin Slaven played Dallas Thurlow in a game that started slowly as both could not pot many balls.
Slaven was doing his best to keep Thurlow in the game as he started to make mistakes and set his opponent up.
This was enough to give Thurlow the confidence he needed as half way through the game he exploded into action.
Thurlow was playing like a man possessed and Slaven was playing like a man who looked like he just had an exorcism.
Thurlow dominated an inept Slaven in a Battle of the Bulge-like game as Thurlow won 79-36.
Allan Piggott played Brett Bradley in the third black ball result in a very good game.
These are two contrasting players as Piggott likes a free flowing attacking game mixed with safety and Bradley is methodical in his shots though he can put his opponents to sleep by the time it takes for him to have a shot.
Piggott was a little unlucky as he kept chasing the pink and kept missing which gave his team mates fodder for stirring him.
Bradley was playing well making minimal mistakes and playing safe when needed while Piggott was matching him as the lead changed a few times.
In the end Piggott was in just in front and both needed the black to win.
Bradley stepped up had a shot, sunk the black and won 54-53 in a very good game.
Garry Bender played Paul Hewitt and with the games being 2-all and Helmets having a healthy aggregate the pressure was back on Bender to deliver.
It was close at first and Bender was not going so badly as he was keeping up with Hewitt.
Bender decided to stop playing at some point as he was a spectator when Hewitt took complete control.
Hewitt won easily 86-46.
Robert Farnsworth played Ian Miles and with Helmets one game in front Farnsworth had to win his game by 74 points for Miscues to continue.
Miles was not going to let that happen for as long as he stayed close to Farnsworth his team wins.
Farnsworth tried his hardest but it was beyond him and though he won 49-38 Miles had done enough.
Helmets won 4-3 and Miscues are finished until 2015.
Qualifying semi final
Carpet One Tall Timbers v C and W Printing Red Sox: Timbers captain Keith Morris played Rod Denley and both started out cautiously not giving their opponent an opportunity to get a run.
Denley finally took control with some very good potting.
Morris was putting in a late run but Denley held on to win 53-36.
Joe Steffen played Leigh Best and these two very good cueists are a pleasure to watch when in form.
Best has improved his game this year though he has always been a good potter he had tendencies to play every shot thinking all could be potted.
Steffen is very methodical at the best of times and this was a great match up.
Best outplayed Steffen from the start and the pressure was on Steffen and he was making too many mistakes.
Best stayed calm throughout and potted really well to win by a large margin 85-22.
Peter Richards played Trevor Cameron, Richards back to his best and reminding Cameron what he has to do to play semi final snooker.
Richards came out of the gates real fast at first and took an early lead with some good potting.
Cameron was left stunned and he finally started to pot some good balls and his two surges late in the game were to no avail as Richards won 71-50.
Brett Thorpe played John Lyons and could the younger, in-form Thorpe keep the old master at bay?
He could indeed as Thorpe was potting everything in sight and also leaving the cue ball safe giving Lyons nothing.
Lyons was trying his best but nothing was going his way as Thorpe ran away with the game 89-40.
Maurie Smith played Garry Nolan who has had a lean season, not winning many games so now time for redemption was upon him.
Smith has patience as he can grind a game out as he did with this game.
Nolan took an early lead and things were looking good for Nolan when half way through the game the ground opened up and swallowed Nolan.
Smith took the advantage and potted really well to come home strong to win 62-31.
Mitch McCosker played Jeff Stait, Stait having to win by 22 points for his team to win the game which was not impossible against McCosker as sometimes he implodes and goes off his game.
Stait is usually the man for this occasion but McCosker, though behind, was keeping the score under the 22 points.
Stait scored a 22 break in the end to win the game 71-58, only to fall eight points short of winning the game.
Tonight’s games, all at The Workies, have minor premiers Pockets taking on Tall Timbers for a place in the grand final.
Red Sox play Helmets and the loser of this bows out for 2014.
