After Dr Geldenhuys’ tragic death in June which left the Lithgow community stunned, former patients, friends and colleagues rallied around the Geldenhuys family offering unbounded support for her children.
Former patients and fellow members of the Lithgow medical fraternity have also openly recalled her dedication and integrity in her dealings with patients and colleagues.
Lithgow Mayor Maree Statham expressed her sadness at the presentation.
“In June I was so saddened and sorry to hear about the unnecessary death of Dr Leonie,” Cr Statham said.
“There has been overwhelming community support for Dr Leonie and to recognise the contribution that she made to the community a plaque is being erected at the surgery in Railway Parade.
“Dr Leonie was a very beautiful person and a very passionate and caring doctor who is very sadly missed,” the mayor said.
