Already many of the businesses are getting into the swing of things by decorating their windows and businesses with their efforts all going towards making this year’s Halloween Day in the local area another spectacular success.
Lithgow Council has Halloween activities in place and you can find out just what is happening in the Lithgow Mercury’s wrap-around edition on Thursday, October 30.
If you want to be involved in advertising your business — normally or in a Halloween style — phone the Lithgow Mercury on 6352 2700 and be part of the fun.
This year’s event will include the very popular and safe “Trick or Treat Trail” right along the length of Main Street.
The Trail Map will be printed in the Lithgow Mercury on Thursday October 30.
Participating businesses are stocking up on sweets to try to meet the insatiable demand from the throngs of children and families who will parade along Main Street as ghosts, zombies, aliens, princesses or scary creatures.
“I am expecting that Halloween 14 will be even bigger and better than last year’s inaugural event held across Lithgow’s main shopping areas,” Lithgow mayor Maree Statham said.
“I have heard of so many local people who are planning to come to the event and I know people are visiting from far afield to join in all the family friendly fun on offer.
“I am already very impressed with a number of shopfront windows along Main Street and the Lithgow Valley Plaza being decorated with Halloween themed displays incorporating skulls, skeletons, spiders, cobwebs, zombies, headdresses, and special lighting effects.
“Cafes and restaurants from one end of Main Street to the other are getting into the spirit of the event and will be staying open late with many offering Halloween cuisine-themed menus which proved so popular last year,” Lithgow City Council Economic Development Officer Matt Brewster said.
With the huge crowd numbers of last year’s Halloween event in mind, Council has been working with local businesses to close a section of Main Street between Eskbank Street and Bridge Street as a trial to create more space for families to meet and safely enjoy the spectacle of the event.
This section of Main Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from 6pm Thursday October 30 until 6am Saturday November 1.
The closed section of Main Street will host the inaugural Halloween 14 Block Party component of Halloween 14.
The roadway will be turned into Halloween themed public outdoor eating areas along with pop up street cafes, scary witches and wizard art installations, and entertainment space with stage.
The closed road surface will also provide a unique canvas for local artists to create Halloween themed pavement chalk art.
The program of entertainment for the Halloween 14 Block Party commences from 7.30am with local cafes offering Halloween themed breakfast as the pavement artists commence work.
Between noon and 2pm the stage area to the front of the John Joseph Building at 31 Main Street will come alive with the sound of local musicians and buskers as part of a “pop up” street picnic.
Trick or Treat will run between 4pm and 6pm with the official opening at 6pm by Cr Statham.
This will be followed by best dressed parades, street entertainment and spectacular light shows until 10pm.
