Slammers led from the outset, however there were a number of close sets and good defence by Hot Shots.
Julie Grant for Slammers featured in the first two 5-4 wins to her team, firstly with Marilyn Tully against Lisa Anderson and Sandy Cox and secondly partnered with Carol Carver against Kristy Aylott and Lisa Anderson.
Aylott and Cox reversed the 5-4 result in favour of Hot Shots when they were just too good on the day for Carver and Tully.
The fourth set brought the first big winning margin to Slammers when Julie Grant and Marilyn Tully combined very well to win 8-1 over Lisa Anderson and Sandy Cox.
The following set was forfeited by Slammers, handing the set to Hot Shots 9-0.
In the final set Carol Carver and Marilyn Tully then had a better grip on the situation and won 6-3 against Kristy Aylott and Sandy Cox who were, however unlucky not to be able to finish off some of their games.
End of day’s play resulted in a four sets 30 games win to Slammers over Hot Shots two sets 26 games.
Best for Slammers was Julie Grant, who played consistently well.
Best for Hot Shots was Lisa Anderson, who powered through the day and won 18 games.
Thank you to Lisa Anderson for filling in for Hot Shots’ Kristy Wyrzykoswki, who is believed to have swapped the hard court surface this week for a softer, sandier one to instead play beach volleyball and also to Marilyn Tully for again filling in for the injured Margie Lowe.
Sluggers v Slices was a match that produced only one close set.
Sluggers took the first two sets, firstly when Rhonda Thompson and Debbie Williams played strongly together to win 7-2 over Kim Heath and Averil Charlton.
Williams had another good set teamed with Robyn Patterson, this time winning in a close 5-4 set against Averil Charlton and June Kelly of Slices.
Kim Heath and June Kelly then put the team machine into gear and began a relentless steam rolling of their opponents with an 8-1 win over Thompson and Patterson of Sluggers.
Heath lost none of her momentum when she teamed with Charlton for another 8-1 set win against Thompson and Williams of Sluggers.
Williams and Patterson then took the game up to Slices’ Charlton and Kelly, however in the end Slices won 7-2.
Heath and Kelly rounded off Slices’ day with a third 8-1 result over Sluggers’ Thompson and Patterson.
Slices were victorious with a four sets 37 games win to Sluggers’ two sets 17 games and with a nice turnaround from their loss the previous week.
Best for Slices was Kim Heath, winning 26 games and a deserved best for Sluggers was Debbie Williams.
In round six this week, Sluggers play Hot Shots and Slammers meet Slices.
Duty Club team is Slammers.
