Budding young cricketers from Lithgow Primary, Zig Zag Cooerwull and St Pats took to the field with older students from La Salle helping out as umpires and coaches.
The youngsters had the added bonus of meeting Blues ‘contracted’ players Trent Copeland and Scott Henry who was only too happy to sign autographs, have their pictures taken with students and offer the odd bit of advice.
One of the organisers Matthew Tabbenor said: “MILO T20 is a fun, fast-paced, modified, cricket program that encapsulates the excitement associated with the KFC T20 Big Bash league.
“It’s a fun and safe carnival for primary school aged children in Years 3-6.
“MILO T20 Blast School Cups give children the opportunity to play games of T20 in an exciting round-robin format.
“Although it was fairly chilly out in the middle of the sportsground, the students did not seem to worry as they were having so much fun.”
Many games were played simultaneously on the showground, creating an exciting and vibrant atmosphere.
High energy music was pumped through the speakers to enhance the action and vibrant atmosphere.
MILO T20 Blast creates a unique sporting atmosphere, with short boundaries inspiring countless fours and sixes designed to have the children screaming for more.
With junior cricket struggling for numbers in Lithgow over the past couple of years, it is hoped that the T20 day would attract more numbers to the sport.
Judging by the talents of many of the students playing, it is a shame that junior cricket in Lithgow is not flourishing.
