Pleading guilty to a raft of six charges was 27 year old John Shane Roberts, of Lithgow.
Around 7.40 pm on December 21 last year police receive two calls from members of the public concerned for the safety of a baby being carried on a motorcycle in the Ramsay Street area of the Vale of Clwydd.
The defendant did not notice the police arriving when he emerged from a block of units.
He was wearing only a basketball cap and shorts and keeping control of the motorcycle with one hand while carrying a 19 month old baby in his other arm.
Police said the baby was wearing only a nappy.
The rider continued around Berry Street, Redgate Street and an unnamed lane before he was confronted by police waiting at the Ramsay Street address.
Magistrate Fiona Toose was told that ‘..the accused failed to see any problem with taking the baby for a ride’.
When the officers spoke to the mother she claimed to be unaware the infant was on the motorcycle at that time.
But she then admitted that she and the accused were ‘..trying to get him used to it.’
It was an exercise that cost Roberts $3000.
Magistrate Toose imposed fines of $500 on each count of negligent driving, not keeping proper control, unlicensed rider, failure to wear a helmet and riding an unregistered and uninsured motorcycle.
He was also disqualified from driving for three months.
An additional charge of dangerous driving was withdrawn.
