PARRAMATTA’S Deputy Lord Mayor (you get Lord Mayors when you get to the size of the capital of western Sydney) Paul Garrard is either a glutton for punishment or one of the nations most civic minded citizens. At a function in Lithgow yesterday Paul confided to the column that he has served 40 years on Parramatta Council, including several terms as mayor. “Never got to be Lord Mayor,” he said. And we thought some of our more successful councillors were dedicated by topping up more than 20 years.
Not the Tic Tacs!
HOPE the ALP sleuths don’t get onto this one or there could be hell to play and a new graft and corruption inquiry under way. During this week’s state cabinet visit to Lithgow the Environment Minister Robyn Parker took the opportunity to tour the Ferrero factory to inspect the company’s award winning environmental procedures and to learn a little about the art of successful confectionery manufacture for an international market. Later she confessed she had been given ‘some Tic Tacs’. Wonder where that sits on the scale of political gifts?
