A PEN and ink work by local artist John Barnes was chosen for the Lithgow Council collection at the 37th annual Portland art exhibition at the weekend.
The work depicts the life and times of one of Lithgow’s most significant ‘achievers’, Sir Joseph Cook.
Cook, the one time Lithgow Mercury employee and coal miner, went on to become Prime Minister of Australia.
One of more than 370 entries in the exhibition the work was listed in the catalogue at $2500.
The artist is pictured with his creation that is set to join an impressive collection acquired by the council since the inception of the Portland exhibition.
