A staff member at Coles in Lithgow confirmed that the store had to close its doors due to damage from the storm and St Patricks Catholic Church had to resort to pumping water out once the flooding became too much, see below for photos.

Lithgow resident Max Young whose photograph you can see below, said he thinks the water may have damaged his car.

"Lost our falcon I think. It basically went under water," he said.

"It doesn't sound very happy when you try to start it."

Lithgow Council has issued a warning to residents.

"Waterways were flooded and in some areas overflowing. The stormwater lines were also overloaded and some sewer manholes were lifted because of stormwater inflows. Roads, buildings and sporting fields were also flooded," Council said in a release.

"Lithgow Council staff immediately responded with inspections of all infrastructure in the locality. Traffic controls and warning advice was installed. Water mains are being inspected also.

"While the damage is still being assessed, the council expects that there will be repairs required to roads, footpaths, sports fields, creek embankments and water and sewer infrastructure."

And the rain shows no signs of slowing down. The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has forecast rain or Lithgow for the rest of the week through to at least next Monday.
