195 millimetres (mm) was recorded at the Cooerwull station according to data from the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM). It was also by far the wettest month so far in 2021, besting March which saw 192.9mm fall.

The Cooerwull station has a gap in its data, ending at 2006 and resuming at 1973. Compared to last year it was decidedly sopping with just 67.6mm falling in November last year.

Since 2006, November has seen more than 100mm fall just five times (2007, 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021).

Lithgow Golf Club vice president Justin Nelson said while the recent downpours caused a bit of trouble, he's never seen a course this green in his career.

"We've reached a point, I think this year, where the course is at its maximum capacity, and that's both in terms of our holding dams and also what's sitting just below the surface," he said.

"So where we're at now is any amount of rain let's say, over a few mills or even sudden downpours like we had Wednesday afternoon, we see these waterlogged conditions return."

The course was shut in late November after rain caused flooding and a number of safety issues for players but recent sunshine has allowed the course to reopen to all.

"Intermittent rain is perfect for us," Mr Nelson said.

"Our greens need to be watered... periodically. Our green staff are in charge of that, and they do a fantastic job of managing them. I guess the type of rain we've had, and the consistency is not really what we're after.

"I've been playing since I was a junior - since I was 10 - and I don't think I've seen grass on the course as well as this. There are patches around the course that are now seeing grass that I've never seen grass on."
