Photographer and organiser Karen Edwards has a vision to capture a photo of the most Santa Hats bobbing about in the one place and each year it turns out to be a success.

She has been doing Santa photos in Hartley since 2014 and said the Santa Hat Challenge was a nice addition to that. "I just love offering an opportunity for people to get outdoors and have a bit of a laugh and enjoy some festive fun," she said.

Ms Edwards is inviting people to dust off their hats, grab family, friends and of course leashed furry friends to gather outside the Old Hartley Post Office at 10.30am for an official head count at 11am.

"We then follow Archie the Shetland pony and his owner Wendy who lead the bobbing hats up the pathway and at the end of the trail is Cyclone, another Shetland pony who joined the event last year," Ms Edwards said.

Once everyone is in position Ms Edwards captures the group tossing their iconic red hats into the air.

"Each year we see new faces and some folk have made it an annual tradition."

This year Ms Edwards has asked for a gold coin donation upon entry to go towards cancer research and you will receive a ticket in a lucky draw with winners announced on the day.

Ms Edwards said if you don't have a Santa hat, not to worry.

"We've got you covered, you can purchase one on the day with all proceeds going to 'Team Wonder Women Mystery Box Rally', raising funds for cancer research," she said.

She also encouraged people to stay, relax and shop in the Hartley village.

"You can do some Christmas shopping at the village galleries and enjoy all the village has to offer.

"Bring a picnic lunch or take a short stroll along the beautiful boardwalk down to the river," she said.

"The village offers something for everyone."

The event will be COVID safe.
