This upcoming holiday season why not share some joy!
LINC is on the call out for people in our community to participate in their Reverse Advent Calendar project to support those in need locally.
LINC Community Hub manager Leanne Walding and Receptionist Helena Bilby recently underwent digital marketing training, with Helena's main focus being on food rescue and Leanne setting her focus on the Bowenfels Hub.
The ladies saw the idea online of a Reverse Advent Calendar, so instead of receiving it is about giving to those less fortunate.
"We will ask our staff members and other organisations as well as businesses and schools if they want to participate because we would love to see the community get behind the idea," Leanne said.
The Reverse Advent Calendar will start on December 1 and run through until December 20 when the donated items will then be used as Christmas Hampers for Lithgow families and individuals who need them most.
While there is a set list you can follow each day, it is more of a guide that you can follow.
"We mainly want non-perishable items so the advent calendar is something you can follow but you don't necessarily have to buy the item we've put on there," Leanne said.
The '2021 Reverse Advent Calendar' can be done by any member of the public, and involves:
- December 1 - A packet of pasta
- December 2 - Tinned Soup
- December 3 - Long-life Milk
- December 4 - Rice
- December 5 - Cereal
- December 6 - Tinned tomatoes
- December 7 - Vegemite/Spread
- December 8 - Tuna
- December 9 - Jam
- December 10 - Coffee/tea bags
- December 11 - Canned fruit
- December 12 - Baked beans/spaghetti
- December 13 - Milo/Hot Chocolate
- December 14 - Biscuits/Crackers
- December 15 - Honey/Spread
- December 16 - Pasta Sauces
- December 17 - Canned Veg
- December 18 - Sugar
- December 19 - Tomato Sauce
- December 20 - A little surprise
Helena also came up with the lovely idea of having cards available for residents to write a little Christmas message to go with the hampers.
"It would be nice for those who are going through a tough time to receive not only a lovely hamper but an encouraging message, it can change a persons whole day," she said.
"Every little bit goes a long way."
It is up to residents if they want to put a box together or drop ongoing items to LINC and if you can't drop the box off LINC will come to you and pick it up.
Simply add an item each day to your Christmas Box (non perishable) and donate to LINC - 1 Padley Street, Lithgow by Monday, December 20.
If you need someone to pick up your Christmas Box this can be arranged on 6352 2077.
