And while they're not perfect like the rest of us are, let's pause pre-ballot box to give credit where it's due. And there has been a lot of positive advancement in what, thanks to a pandemic, proved to be an extended time in the decision making firing line.
After years of gradual progress the Lake Pillans Wetlands and linked Blast Furnace Park is a wonderful facility for locals and visitors.
Also winning high praise is the ongoing Farmers Creek cycle/walkway that has proved to be immensely popular.
The landscaping along Farmers Creek is a transformation needed for year to disguise an ugly old canal.
There's a million dollar adventure playground and cycle pump track at Endeavour Park and new playgrounds at Wang, Portland and outlying villages, the new fishing jetty and improved amenities at Lake Wallace.
The rather delightful little Pioneer Park in eastern Main Street is a nice touch too.
And they handled the 2019 bushfire crisis very professionally.
Let's see what the new lot can do.
Nothing too lively
WITH the council election just days away we've been treated to a fairly uninspiring campaign littered with tired old meaningless clichés.
Still, we live in hope that the election brings the result we need and ends n less acrimony than what emerged five years go.
Now it's Wang-glow
NOW here's something sure to require traffic control. Greenspot, owners of the old Wang power station site, are planning a light show on what remains of the structure before chimneys and turbine house are blown up (or should that be 'down'?).
It's a tribute to a vanishing stage in Wang's history and will play out over three successive nights beginning tomorrow. City Rangers Park beside the Castlereagh Highway is the recommended viewing point. Don't rush, the show runs from 8.30 to 10.30 each night.
Going nowhere fast
WHAT'S delaying the introduction of those new era trains on the Blue Mountains Line? Surely not more design problems.
The new fleet has been sitting idle in the Lithgow railway yards for weeks so they must at least be able to fit through the tunnels.
The whole thing has been, sad to say, something of an ill-considered fiasco.
