The Lithgow Golf Club's greens have just undergone their yearly scarifying and with the light covering of sand and scarring from the process it was thought that golfers would struggle during Saturday's (Oct 30) monthly medal event sponsored by Henry's Plant and Equipment Hire.

But the slower greens must have suited many of the big field with 24 playing under their handicap.
The greens were a bit of a lottery and it was Michael Saville (16) that struck it rich with a magnificent 63 nett to win B grade and the grade medal.
Playing at a very high standard, many can't understand why Saville is not playing off a much lower handicap and if he can maintain this level of excellence it won't be long before he is knocking on the door of A grade.
It is usually son Blake Goldspink that is in the winners' spotlight but this time it was his father Les (17) that finished runner up to Saville with a score of 66 nett, a score that would usually be more than good enough to win.
Best B grade scratch score went Brett Scanlon (10) with 81 ocb.

Scoring in A grade was also hot with a countback needed to separate the placings. Anthony Oldfield (7) took the honours with his 67 nett counting out runner up Darren Hunter (3) and a playoff for the medal will take place next month between the two.
Best scratch score was Harry Bender (scr) with a par round 72 ocb.
Bathurst visitor C grade Steve Geddes (34) found the course to his liking to take out C grade with a score of 68 nett on a countback.
Medals can only be won by local members and runner up Graeme Osborne (28) who also carded a 68 nett scored his first ever monthly medal.
Best scratch score went to Rod Clarke (19) with a 90.Vouchers went down to those with 70 nett on a countback and they were Paul Stewart, Troy Luka, Neil Hutchinson, Blake Goldspink, Dave Hicks, Steve Hall and Rob Hawes.
Following the easing of COVID restrictions nearest to the pins are now back in play and winners were Paul Cinat, Brett Scanlon, Darren Hunter, Don Wolfenden and Harry Bender.
Wednesday nine hole competition (Oct 7): Winner was Paul Stewart with 23 points. Runner up on 22 points was Mark Bennett and in third spot was Paul Bailey on 20 points ocb.
Vouchers cut out on 18 points and they went to Ray Thompson, John Emms, Michael Casey, Rob Peachman and Leo Murnane.
Friday nine hole competition (Oct 7): Winner was Mitchell Luka on 26 points from runner up Harry Bender on 24 points and in third place was the inform Graeme Osborne on 23 points.
Vouchers went down to those with 17 points and they were Dave Thompson, Rod Bright, Chris Goodsell, Steve McCann, Heath Egan and Don Farnsworth.
